JOB SUMMARY:

Provides comprehensive care for our veteran population such as services in the diagnoses, care, and treatment of assigned patients. Provides effective medical treatment, consultation, and diagnoses upon requests from other Services/Departments.  Obtains patient histories, performs physical exams, formulates a working diagnosis and develops/implements a treatment plan according to clinical guidelines and to determine appropriate hospitalization, and/or disposition to Nursing Home Care, Assisted Living, Community Nursing Home, and/or Home Care.  Orders lab tests, x-rays, EKG's and other diagnostic procedures. Initiates or expedites requests for consults, special tests, or studies. Authorized to write both inpatient and outpatient medical orders, treatments and medications.  Provides education and counseling to patient and family in preventive care, medical conditions and use of prescribed treatment and drugs.  In addition to clinical duties, incumbent will hold routine administrative responsibilities.

Qualifications and Evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

1.  Must be a citizen of the United States.

2.  Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in a Primary Care Specialty.

3.  Must have a degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine.

4.  Must have current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.

5.   Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
