The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency and one of the world's premiere scientific organization. ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority effecting American agriculture.
This position may be located at Iowa State University Center for Survey Statistics and Methodology Department of Statistics in Ames, IA.

The incumbent of this position will perform research in the Range Management Unit, Jornada Experimental range located in Las Cruces, New Mexico OR Iowa State University Center for Survey Statistics and Methodology and Department of Statistics in Ames, Iowa.
The incumbent's research is directed toward developing a survey sampling framework that enables new approaches to be embedded within national resource survey programs, including the NRCS-NRI (National Resources Conservation Service – National Resources Inventory) and emerging surveys in the BLM (Bureau of Land Management). The framework will facilitate the integration of high resolution aerial photography and ground-based measurement to document soil vegetation effects of rangeland management practices. This framework will also have relevance to international efforts to improve environmental monitoring.
This position requires a Ph.D in Statistics, Soil Science, Ecology, Natural Resources or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
