O&Rblends the skills of attorneys, investigators, program analysts, andparalegal specialists to review DOJ programs and investigate sensitiveallegations involving DOJ employees and operations. These reviewsand investigations are often undertaken at the request of congressionalcommittees and DOJ's senior management. Recent reviews conducted byO&R include investigations of DOJ's involvement with the President's Surveillance Program; a review of the FBI's involvement in detainee interrogations in Guantanamo Bay, Afghanistan, and Iraq; and investigations into allegations of misconduct by senior DOJ officials.
The Oversight and Review Division (O&R) Attorney-Advisor leadsteams of attorneys, investigators, and program analysts in reviewingDepartment programs and investigating sensitive allegations involvingDepartment employees and programs. These reviews and investigations areoften undertaken at the request of the Attorney General orcongressional committees. O&R reviews over the years have independently and objectively examined some of the most complex issues facing the Department of Justice, such as reviews of the FBI's handling of the Aldrich Ames and Robert Hanssen espionage cases; the FBI's handling of intelligence information related to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks; the FBI's involvement in detainee interrogations at Guantanamo; the misuse of national security letters; allegations of politicized hiring and firing in the Department; and most recently DOJ's involvement with the President's Surveillance Program. O&R also investigates allegations of misconduct by senior Department ofJustice officials. The duties of the O&R Attorney-Advisor include:planning, organizing, and conducting investigations regarding a widevariety of allegations; compiling and analyzing documents andtestimony; interviewing witnesses and subjects; preparing memoranda ofinterviews and reports of investigation; and making recommendations forpolicy changes, administrative action, or criminal prosecution. Many ofO&R's investigations involve document intensive reviews. TheAttorney-Advisor should be proficient in analyzing complex allegationsand producing clear and thorough written work. Prior criminal prosecutive experience is desired.
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level close tothe work of this job that has given you the particular knowledge,skills, and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically wewould find this experience in work within this field or a field that isclosely related.Examples of specialized experience can be found in such work asproviding expert legal advice and counsel, proper completion and filingof legal documents in matters or cases under review by appropriate legalauthority, coordinating task forces and committees in the developmentof assigned responsibilities, or the ability to personally handle casesinvolving sensitive or highly visible issues that may contain facts which aredifficult to develop and prove or matters of a precedent-setting nature.
