These positions are to serve in the engineering/scientific track of the EMPDC, offering participants assignments and activities that are developmental in nature. Our internships are designed to provide the participants with experiences that build strength in his/her technical engineering or science knowledge base, to demonstrate the application of theory to real world problems and allow the application of the interns' education and knowledge base to actual work situations.
We are seeking those that are interested, inquisitive and highly motivated in making our nation's environment free from risk associated with our nation's nuclear weapons production legacy. The Environmental Management Professional Development Corps provides EM with a continuing source of highly competent personnel with the skills and knowledge to meet current and future goals and missions. Based on your level of education, knowledge, and experience, you will have an opportunity to participate in technical training activities that are both general and specific. These learning activities may be categorized as project/program management, leadership development, and include rotational work experiences in a variety of functional or support program areas. As an EMPDC member you might review small to progressively larger project engineering/scientific proposals for design, cost, and scheduling to evaluate various aspects of proposals and to increase program and technical scientific and/or engineering knowledge and awareness of constraints on programming and budgeting. You will have an opportunity to review and analyze reports on technical program progress and performance, recognizing and bring to the attention of senior program management staff significant deviations from established plans, and make recommendations with regard to the correction of such matters. You will compile information on technical program activities for periodic reports and disseminate this information to appropriate officials. It is expected during the course of your internship that you will transition from a level of working jointly with a mentor or supervisor in these areas to assuming full responsibility for your assigned functions.
