The Environmental Management Professional Development Corps provides 
participants with common training, as well as instruction 
specifically tailored to business, engineering, and scientific 
tracks.  The corporate training and development objective of the 
EMPDC is to provide interns with a broad overview of the Department 
of Energy, its business lines, and instruction on how it accomplishes 
its mission.

We are seeking individuals that are interested, inquisitive and 
highly motivated to play an important role in making our country's 
environment free from risk associated with our nation's nuclear 
weapons production legacy.

The Contract Specialist position is in the business track of the 
EMPDC, offering participants assignments and activities that are 
developmental in nature.  Our internships are designed to provide 
participants with experiences that build strength in his/her 
technical business knowledge base, demonstrate the application of 
theory to real world problems, and allow the application of the 
interns' education and knowledge base to actual work situations.  

As a Contract Specialist "in-training", your purpose will be in 
preparing for a wide variety of business and economic-related 
activities associated with the procurement of goods, systems and 
services for the Environmental Management Office of the United States 
Department of Energy.  This internship is structured to encourage 
your growth and education resulting in a permanent role as a high 
performing Contract Specialist.
The mission of the Department of Energy's Office of Environmental 
Management(EM)is the accelerated risk reduction and cleanup of the 
environmental legacy of this nation's nuclear weapons program and 
government-sponsored nuclear energy research.  The program is one of 
the largest, diverse and technically complex environmental cleanup 
opoerations in the world and includes responsibility for 114 sites 
across the country.

The Environmental Management Professional Development Corps (EMPDC) 
provides EM with a continuing source of highly competent personnel 
with the skills and knowledge to meet both current and future goals 
and missions.


KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • US Citizenship
  • A degree from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to pass a background investigation
  • And for certain positions, ability to obtain security clearance

Based on your level of education, knowledge, and experience, you will 
have an opportunity to participate in activities that may be 
categorized as leadership development, research, analysis and 
decision-making, structured to develop your technical and critical 
thinking skills. 

Examples include:

- Conducting studies and developing cost analyses; 

- Preparing briefings to various audiences which will eventually 
involve contractors and the Source Evaluation Board;

- Studying regulations and learning to monitor compliance;

- Coordinating the approval process for procurement and preparation 
of solicitation packages;

- Reviewing and tracking proposals.

Your assignments will also include rotational work experiences in a 
variety of functional or support program areas.

It is expected during the course of your internship that you will 
transition from a level of working jointly with a mentor or 
supervisor in these areas to assuming full responsibility for your 
assigned functions.


Qualifications and Evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

quality of experience, education, and training 
relevant to the duties of these positions.  Eligible

on a combination of accademic achievement, demonstrated leadership 
ability, work experiences, and their responses to the application
