The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency and one of the world's premiere scientific organization. ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority effecting American agriculture.

Researcher will use existing methods to monitor methane, nitrous oxide, and ammonia gas emissions from a variety of manure management systems utilized in dairy production in the Pacific Northwest and to determine the physical and chemical characteristics of the materials. Collected information will be used to develop emissions factors and process based models that will predict emissions from dairy manure processing and storage areas.
This position requires a Ph.D in environmental engineering, ecology, soil science, or a related field of study. Experience in atmospheric, emission, or airflow model development is highly desirable. Knowledge of gas monitoring equipment and measurement, as well as micrometeorology measurement techniques is desirable.
