JOB SUMMARY:

The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency and one of the world's premiere scientific organization.  ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority effecting American agriculture.

This position is located within the Crop Production and Pest Control Research Unit (CPPCRU) on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette, Indiana. The long-term goals of the CPPCRU are to determine the critical events that influence the outcome of host-pathogen interactions and to devise innovative resistance strategies to control viral and fungal diseases of grain crops. The assignment is to employ virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) to identify wheat genes that are essential for resistance to Fusarium head blight.



Qualifications and Evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

This position requires a recent Ph.D in plant pathology, genetics, molecular genetics or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.  Knowledge of current methods used in plant molecular biology, including techniques used in molecular cloning, quantitative real-time PCR and microarray analysis, is highly desirable.

Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
