JOB SUMMARY:

The Jack C. Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a primary medical and surgical facility located in Muskogee, OK, that provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient healthcare services.  Outpatient care is also provided at two community based outpatient clinics in Hartshorne and Tulsa, OK.  The medical center serves a veteran population of more than 56,400 throughout eastern Oklahoma providing medical, surgical, primary care, and mental health services. It has 91 hospital beds. It is offers an academic setting affiliated with the University of Oklahoma's College of Medicine and the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine hosting residents and Interns within the facility.  The medical center also provides training for other disciplines, including physical therapy, nursing, radiation technology, phlebotomy, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, social work, optometry, and psychology. The VA Cardiologist perform inpatient and outpatient Cardiology consultations and interpret diagnostic tests (teadmills, Holter and Event monitors, echocardigrams), Procedural skills needed include placement of Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines, temporary transvenous pacemaker and permanent pacemaker. S/he will provide direct patient movement with respect to appropriate placement, diagnostic studies, and treatments. Incumbent provides expert opinion on level and appropriateness of care for patients of the VA requiring cardiology specialty services.  Will act as point of contact with consult scheduling service, to arrange the appropriate placement of patients within the medical center or requesting referral outside the system.  Incumbent review plans of care and/or results submitted by outside cardiology services as to appropriate disposition, and review requested diagnostic studies as needed to ensure appropriateness. 


Qualifications and Evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Citizenship:  Citizen of the United States.

Education:  Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the school approved by the Secretary of Veteran Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.  Approved school are:  (1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.  (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. (3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by licensed body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure. (4) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part Ii, chapter 1.

Licensure:  Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.  The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

Physical Standards/Requirements:  See VA Handbook 5005, Part III, Chapter 2, paragraph 7, and VA Handbook 5019, Occupational Health Services. All applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.  

English Language Proficiency.  Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407 (d).  [No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. Chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity who is not proficient in written and spoken English].

Applicant(s) selected for this position will be eligible to apply for an award up to the maxium limitation under the Education Debt Reduction Program.

VA Physicians are eligible for performance pay on an annual basis.

Relocation Expenses are authorized.

Relocation/recruitment incentive up to 25% of base annual salary based on qualification of the applicant.

The Jack C. Montgomery VAMC is offering the maxium pay on the current VA physician pay table to the highly qualified selected candidate.


OTHER INFORMATION:

This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive civil service.

If you are selected and you have not previously served as a federal manager, you will be required to serve a one-year managerial probation period.
